We all believe - as healthcare professionals, and as individuals with our own personal stories and experiences - that helping improve communication between a clinician and a patient can only lead to better healthcare outcomes for everyone involved.

Tim Sielaff, MD, Chief Medical Advisor

Dr. Sielaff is recently retired after more than 20 years as a nationally respected surgeon and health care executive. He first worked at the UMN Medical School, becoming a tenured Associate Professor. He then led the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, starting in 2004, and subsequently held a variety of leadership roles at Allina Health, including the last 5 years as system CMO for where he lead the clinical enterprise. Tim has played a state-wide role in addressing provider burnout, mental heath access challenges, and the delivery of high value care to our communities. He received a BS in psychology from UW-Madison, MD from the Medical College of Virginia, Surgery residency and PhD at UMN, Liver Transplant/HPB fellowship at U-Toronto and MBA from U-St. Thomas. He is currently the American College of Surgeons MacLean Center Fellow in Clinical Medical Ethics. His academic interests are in understanding the role of ethical constructs in delivering high value end of life care (e.g. to whom and how does the value accrue), and between clinicians providing care and the business of medicine (specifically, how (if) they relate to provider burnout).

Janet Silversmith, CEO Minnesota Medical Association

Janet Silversmith is the CEO of the Minnesota Medical Association.  Prior to her appointment as CEO, she served as the MMA’s Director of Health Policy. In that position she was responsible for providing leadership for MMA advocacy strategy as well as the analysis and development of MMA policy.  She has over 25 years of experience in health policy. She previously conducted research on American Indian/Alaska Native health disparities and worked for the Minnesota Senate. She holds a master's degree from the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.

Rahul Koranne, MD, CEO Minnesota Hospital Association

Rahul Koranne, M.D., MBA, FACP, serves as president and CEO of the Minnesota Hospital Association. Before joining MHA, Dr. Koranne was a vice president with HealthEast Care System and prior to that he served as a primary care physician at the smallest critical access hospital in Minnesota in Starbuck. Dr. Koranne is a faculty member at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, where he received his MBA in 2008. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the State University of New York, Brooklyn, and his fellowship in geriatrics at the University of Minnesota. Rahul has served in both rural and metro health care systems serving patients as a practicing physician and a leader across the care continuum. Rahul is passionate about advancing the health of all individuals and communities including those who have serious illnesses.
